Kanan Jaswal's Thoughts of the Days of August 2022
Aug 01: Peaceful coexistence between two groups - one naturally tolerant, the other inherently intolerant - is extremely difficult, if not impossible, because it keeps placing too many unfair demands on the tolerant group.
Aug 02: Survive, if the castes must, they should only as sub-identities among Hindus and not as the determinants of lower or higher births.
Aug 03: Hard labour may tire your body, but let it not tire your spirits.
Aug 04: By visiting Taiwan, Nancy Pelosi has not only called Xi Jinping's bluff, she has also made difficult his hitherto-considered certain continuation at the helms of affairs in China for an unprecedented third term of five years.
Aug 05: At the first sign of indiscipline, and that includes speaking out of turn, the presiding officers ought to suspend for the day the offending members of Parliament. To think that such people frame laws for almost billion and a half Indians!
Aug 06: It should not be at all difficult to effectively counter each and every argument that the so-called liberals advance in support of their charge that the religious minorities are not treated well in India. Why the government of India does not do that is a mystery.
Aug 07: Anyone having pushed against the self-imposed limits may suffer from imposter syndrome for some time. But then, that is the way to grow.
Aug 08: When North Korea with less than one thousandth of the USA's GDP can challenge it militarily, why can't India with GDP one fifth of China's be its military equal?
Aug 09: For many Indian politicians and intellectuals, disparaging India's achievements and unfavourably comparing it even with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is a highly remunerative profession.
Aug 10: Boldness is saying to someone's face what you have been saying behind their back.
Aug 11: After a few U-turns taken quickly, one is apt to forget whether they are going or coming.
Aug 12: Bringing a child into the world is a private decision by its parents but the government in India has to assume major responsibility for the child's welfare even before it is born. The government should, therefore, have the right to decide the maximum number of children a couple can have.
Aug 13: Just like the Chinese communists, the jihadi Islamists have long memories and they can go to any extent to avenge real or imagined wrongs.
Aug 14: China's unequivocal support to the One India principle has to be the quid pro quo for India being able to reiterate its one-China policy.
Aug 15: Each of the 9131 days until the 15th August 2047, the hundredth anniversary of India's independence, we Indians have to work smart and work hard to make ours a developed nation by that date.
Aug 16: A severe blow can be dealt to mega-corruption by making political funding absolutely transparent and broad-based.
Aug 17: Zero tolerance for corruption and zero tolerance for violent protests are necessary for India's rapid progress.
Aug 18: For a procedural irregularity, FIFA has quite unfairly put a ban on India. If it is not revoked soon, the government should ban in the country the telecast of FIFA world cup later this year.
Aug 19: Presently, we may be poor but we will not remain so for long if we do not allow our physical poverty to ascend to the mental level.
Aug 20: After the New York Times' front page story on the world's best education minister Manish Sisodia, it should be the turn of the Time Magazine to have on its cover the world's best health and public works minister Satyendar Jain.
Aug 21: In these times of political correctness, only self-deprecatory humour can be considered a safe bet.
Aug 22: The holy grail of life-long youth has been found; it is constant curiosity.
Aug 23: If your happiness lies in doing your duty and in doing the best under your circumstances, you can always be happy.
Aug 24: In order to keep protecting our civilisational nation from its external and internal enemies, we Indians have to make ourselves really strong - physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Aug 25: Now that we Indians have woken up from our long slumber and have set our hearts on all-around progress, India's rise is inexorable.
Aug 26: The standard of political discourse in India will go up a few notches if those levelling serious charges against their opponents are legally compelled to prove them or face conviction for defamation.
Aug 27: Let us fortify our present to protect ourselves from a frightening future.
Aug 28: Those keeping their head despite having made their first million go on to make many, many more.
Aug 29: Have vision, have people, will work hard - this is success demystified.
Aug 30: Can there be poetry without exaggeration?
Aug 31: Since there are no castes among Muslims and Christians, there is no question of extending to them the benefit of any reservations for the Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Castes in government jobs and admissions to educational institutions. However, the 10% reservation for economically weaker sections should be open to those eligible among them as well.
