Kanan Jaswal's Thoughts for the Days of November 2021

Nov:     It is so tempting for a democratic government to ditch discipline in favour of mollycoddling and appeasement but then it should forget its plan to develop the country.

Nov:     It is the government's bounden duty to remove, through its consistently fair and impartial conduct, people's perception that it is in thrall to a couple of industrial groups.

Nov: Only by paying all their taxes, including GST, honestly, citizens really earn the right to hold politicians and bureaucrats accountable for their misdeeds and malfeasance.

Nov: Let us do something worthwhile everyday to prove to ourselves our own humanity.

Nov:     We can be alone but never lonely in a place where, we think, we belong.

Nov:     So long as political funding is not made absolutely transparent in India, nothing more than a dent can be made in the problem of across-the-board corruption.

Nov:     From being inefficient and corrupt, India is on its way to become efficient and corrupt. But it has to march on and on until it becomes efficient and honest.

Nov:     Just as Dharma, India has to be first protected for it to protect us all.

Nov:     You have not lived this day if you have done nothing during it to further the purpose of your life.

Nov:     With cool-headed planning and preparation, most problems can be solved.

Nov:     We should do to China what it has done to the United States. It is a very tall order but that does not mean that it is not doable.

Nov:     Those talking of fundamental rights will have better credibility if they also talk of fundamental duties.

Nov:     Hinduttva is nothing but resurgent and more self-confident Hinduism. No surprise, therefore, that it is not liked by all those who, through their words and conduct, have proved themselves to be morbidly anti-Hindu.

Nov:     Appeasement does not ever succeed and how can it when it is just a coward's way of finding temporary and costly peace?

Nov:     Why should we mind a few falls if the will and the capacity to rise again are there?

Nov:     If you are having good intentions and are sure that you are doing the right thing, even an army of detractors will not be able to unnerve you.

Nov:    You are really fortunate if you know what you are uniquely suited to do and are doing that.

Nov:     India may have more than its normal share of anti-nationals but it is for us really Indians to effectively counter them and to make sure that the comprehensive national power of India keeps on rising.

Nov:     Once a while, it is acceptable to make a strategic retreat, but problem arises when it becomes the default option.

Nov:     Status-quoists might have won an important battle but the war will still be won by reformers.

Nov:     Putting any one particular profession on a pedestal can be counter-productive because by doing that you are effectively lowering all others.

Nov:     Don't you ever measure your success against anyone's else; that will either make you vainglorious or belittle you in your own eyes.

Nov: If for you your religion comes before the nation, your claims to be patriotic will always sound hollow.

Nov: Any political party or individual promising personal benefits in cash or kind to voters ought to be debarred from the electoral process for at least six years.

Nov: A day begun with a few minutes of stretching followed by seven Pranayams to awaken the body’s seven Chakras is a day well begun.

Nov: Terrorists and those giving them a safe harbour are India's enemies and all patriotic Indians, including those who think they constitute civil society, should help the security forces in defeating them.

Nov: Unless and until the human race turns entirely vegetarian, if not vegan, all the concern being expressed about global warming will remain only a lot of hot air (pun intended).

Nov: Keeping our body and mind optimally functional is our first and foremost duty.

Nov: If you do good to people, some of them will feel grateful but some others will feel and say that they were entitled to it and expect and demand more.

Nov: There should be no place in Parliament for persons not willing even to observe the normal etiquettes of a civilised society.
