Kanan Jaswal's Thoughts for the Days of July 2021

Jul:     Pay all your bills as soon as you receive them and experience a certain lightness of spirit.

Jul:     If you are looking for perfection, you will not be able to vote in an election. Vote, therefore, for the candidate who is, to you, the least imperfect.

Jul:     Once we are convinced that we are doing the right thing, we should not worry whether it will win people's approbation or not.

Jul:     Before promising to do something by a future date, we should be mindful of the fact that one day that future date will become the present.

Jul:     At times, life may look absolutely dark but it can never be a black hole. Even at its worst, life does emit some light.

Jul:     By choosing to learn only from persons you have a liking for, you are limiting what you can learn.

Jul:     Rather than ruing the fact that we have not achieved much so far, we should focus our efforts on doing something great or at least something worth its while in the time still left to us.

Jul: Doing the routine willfully and mindfully not only ensures that the job is done well but it also keeps us in a generally happy frame of mind because life is mostly routine.

Jul: In our overly over-crowded cities and towns, we should celebrate and cherish the few moments of solitudes we able to get just to be with ourselves.

Jul: We all have various capabilities, at least we all believe this, but do we ever seriously think how we have so far used these capabilities for the benefit of our society and nation?

Jul: Such is the comprehensive national power of China and the fear it evokes that the rest of the world would never come to know whether the novel coronavirus causing COVID-19 was a Chinese laboratory construct or a natural virus which jumped from animals to humans.

Jul: Self-awareness is our first and very important step on the long road to enlightenment.

Jul: How can we ever wish the best to a criminal? We can, knowing that it is the best for him or her to get caught and be sentenced and thus get a chance to repent and reform.

Jul: Your happiness may not be the same as mine but we can work together and achieve our joint happiness. 15 Jul: Keep challenging yourself to do things that are really difficult and most of the times you will find yourself coming out a winner.

Jul: While walking in a park or in nature, try to bless trees, branches, leaves, flowers, birds, squirrels, anything you happen to be looking at, and feel a flow of goodness and energy in you.

Jul: The real reason behind our procrastinating doing something is our fear that we will not be able to do it well or even satisfactorily.

Jul: We may join any grouping of nations howsoever powerful but we will be secure only when our intrinsic strength is adequate to ward off the designs of predators.

Jul: Life often asks us tough questions which we may not be able to answer all the time but that should not be for not trying.

Jul: Death is not scary but dying bit by bit over a long period of time is.

Jul: When you are about to give up, look at the problem from a different point of view and then try to solve it. If unsuccessful again, you have a right to give up.

Jul: Lying and cheating might deliver you success but in the bargain they kill the human in you and leave just a beast.

Jul:     For whatever reasons, you may stop loving someone, but that does not mean you no longer have a duty towards them.

Jul:     We have to keep questioning our assumptions if we want to grow intellectually.

Jul:     If at all, we can be proud of our own achievements, not others'. But of course, we may feel and express our happiness at others' attainments.

Jul:     Where the demos or people become indisciplined, lawless, and conscious of only their rights but not their duties, the democray gives way to either autocracy or anarchy.

Jul:     There are few joys in the world which can equal the high of a project completed as scheduled.

Jul:     Don't be in a rush to agree or disagree with someone; give them a fair hearing, understand what they are saying, and then decide whether to agree or not.

Jul:     The first and, arguably, the most important step towards greatness is walking one's talk.

Jul:     When life deals you a really bad hand, instead of cursing your misfortune, go inward and savour just being alive.

Jul:     While trying to mould others to our own image, does the thought that we ourselves are not ideal ever cross our mind?
