Kanan Jaswal's Thoughts for the days of November 2020

Nov:     It is within our power to make sure that every morning renews and reinvigorates us.

Nov:     If someone cheats you and you cheat them back, you end up having lost twice.

Nov:     Not asserting ourselves is often not humility but cowardice.

Nov:     Luck is preparedness finding opportunity.

Nov:     Finding a solution to a problem which we have not understood well is extremely difficult, if not impossible.

Nov:     Even if the person we admire most is no more, the memory of our shared moments with him or her continue to inspire us.

N0v:     Even for the talented, success is difficult to attain without cultivating persistence.

N0v:     An element of uncertainty makes life interesting. Obviously, it was said before the Covid times!

Nov: Someone not having concern for others should not be called an animal because even animals care for their kind.

Nov: Looking to the ineffectiveness, even effeteness, of supra-national bodies like the United Nations, it can be said with confidence that nation states are not going to wither away any time soon.

Nov: It is far better to be a leader without followers than being one without principles.

Nov: The habit of accepting and meeting challenges, big and small, primes us for attaining our ambitions.

Nov: Enthusiasm is the salt of our lives.

Nov: While celebrating this most beautiful festival of lights, Deepavali, let us learn to illuminate ourselves from the inside.

Nov: Just like religion, environment when protected protects us.

Nov: Self-discipline is an aid to our creativity, not a hindrance.

Nov: Giving back to nature and to society should be our creed to live by.

Nov; Duties and rights have to go together. When rights completely overshadow duties, you get India, and when duties do that to rights, you get China.

Nov: Learning is our birthright but most of us do not often exercise this right after two or three decades into our lives.

Nov: Most political leaders, instead of leading, follow the masses and pander to them.

Nov: A leader should have absolute clarity about Where to go, Why to go, and How to go.

Nov: Old age is not necessarily the age of wisdom.

Nov: Self-confidence is our capital, and it is in our hands to constantly increase it by doing well whatever we do.

Nov: Integrity and timidity is an impossible combination.

Nov: You are a person of culture if you are decent and courteous to even those who are not in a position to benefit or harm you in any manner. 26 Nov: Power is only a value-neutral multiplier. With power, someone good will do more good, and someone bad will do more harm.

Nov: Instead of saluting a person, we should recognise the godliness in  them and salute that.

Nov: If you have to dedicate, dedicate your effort, not the outcome, to someone or some ideal. Like that, the outcome is bound to be of a very high standard.

Nov: The corrupt are the real termites because they hollow out the nation from within.

Nov: Without the rule of law, a democracy slides either into an autocracy or into chaos.
