Kanan Jaswal's Thoughts for the Days of May 2020

May:     One should know when to carry on and when to retire for the night and come back at it next morning fully re-energised.

May:     Life comes to us not in years, months or days, it comes to us in moments, and even under the worst circumstances, we have it in us to make the best of the particular moment we are in.

May:     Losses, howsoever bad, can't leave me shattered, for the simple reason that I am not a sheet of glass.

May:     The free are disciplined from within and the slaves have to be from without.

May:     Procrastination is optimism gone berserk.

May:     My life is worth living only if its purpose is much bigger than me and this life itself.

May:     Knowledge without action is just belief and action without knowledge is just chaos.

May:    A feeling of pride in doing something desirable well and a feeling of shame in doing it poorly - if we have these two intrinsic motivators, no one can stop our rise as an individual, as a society, and as a nation.

May:     The beauty of bureaucracy is that no one in it can ever be held responsible or accountable for any lapses. If somehow badly cornered, a bureaucrat will always slither away to safety blaming a systemic failure.

May:     Never allowing it to come in the way of admitting and correcting our mistakes, we have to ride our ego to be able to get to our potential.

May:     Ego is as essential to me as my backbone but too much of it is like a very stiff backbone which would make even bending down to tie my shoelaces a painful task.

May:     I don't want to be remembered after my death but I would still like to lead a life worthy of a eulogy.

May:     f we run after happiness, we may never catch it. So, let us stop and think that we already have it. We would then discover that that is the way to get happiness.

May:     Progress lies in questioning self-imposed limits and then transcending them.

May:     By enjoying others' successes (so long as they are not at our cost ☺️), we can multiply our moments of celebration.

May:     Always keep a pen and paper ready, you never know when your creativity will choose to come alive.

May:     Difficult problems are very much like the "impregnable" forts of the antiquity - all yielding in the end to great pressure sustained over a period of time.

May:     Befriend superior minds for success, but be wary of the superior minds having similar aspirations.

May:     Stand up and be counted, if you do not want to be reclassified as invertebrate.

May:     f you have a vision and unimpeachable integrity, leadership for you is a walk in the park.

May:     We notice people only when they have succeeded and no doubt, to us, they look different, but they were exactly like us before they launched themselves on a relentless drive to success in their chosen fields.

May:     Time can not be wasted; what we call time wasting is actually we wasting ourselves, with time as our witness.

May:     A milestone tells us how far we have come and also how far we still have to go.

May:     When you excel yourself, there is no losing side. It is the perfect win-win situation.

May:     Merely by saying "Yes, we can", we bring to life our latent energy.

May:     Kanan Jaswal's Thought for the Day, and for the Next Decade:

For India's inexorable rise as a powerful, prosperous, yet compassionate nation, its leadership, formal and informal, has to inspire a critical mass of Indian people to sublimate their individual ambitions into an overarching ambition for the nation.

May:     Invest in your own growth as a person to get the highest possible return and capital appreciation!

May:     The highest form of love is the love of one's duty - duty towards the motherland, duty towards the parents and other family members, duty towards the friends, duty towards the environment, et al.

May:     If you are really grateful to someone for a favour, you will not be desperately looking for an opportunity to return it in some way.

May:     Would we ever jump if there are no hurdles in our way?

May:     Sports is life's petri dish, experiments there bring quick results. Wearing socks right, tying shoelaces with right tension, give a basketball player better on-court performance. In life, not so fast, but right changes do give good outcomes.
